Our coaching

We don’t train chess to find prodigies. We train it to create them.

How We Teach Chess

Chess is a game of decisions.
That’s why our coaching is built around one principle:
teach children how to think, not just what to play.

Royal Gambit’s coaches don’t rush through openings or theory. We break ideas into simple, usable patterns.  We give kids room to analyse, express, try, fail, and try again, without fear of “getting it wrong.”

This is where critical thinking, concentration and confident decision-making begin.

What Makes Us Different

We teach through the 3Cs — Critical Thinking, Concentration & Confidence.

Beyond openings and tactics, every lesson focuses on mindset: thinking clearly, staying focused, and facing wins or mistakes with equal maturity.

A chess class within 30 minutes by design.

Our motto is to make Royal Gambit accessible, a class within 30 minutes. Quality + convenience, without compromise.

We don’t just tell them the answer.

We help them reach it. Children learn best when they discover things themselves. So instead of saying “play this move,” our coaches ask: “What threat do you see?” “What would you change if you had one more chance?” This develops independent thinkers.

We teach composure, not pressure.

We emphasise patience, clarity, and calm analysis, especially in difficult positions. A child who learns to stay composed on the board naturally becomes more composed in exams, competitions, and everyday situations.

Our learning stays personal.

Our in-person and online batches are intentionally tight, small enough for personal attention, big enough for friendly competition. Your child will never feel lost or left behind.

We prepare kids for real competition in a healthy way.

We frame tournaments to be: “Your chance to learn under real conditions.” This helps children to handle time pressure, navigate mistakes, and think clearly when it matters.

FAQs

We don’t place children based on age alone. Before joining, one of our coaches will speak with you and assess your child’s comfort with basic rules, patterns, and decision-making. This ensures they’re placed in a group where they feel challenged but never overwhelmed whether they’re complete beginners or preparing for competitions.

Yes. Every session is led by an experienced FIDE-rated chess coach in Singapore with patience and clarity. Our coaches have tournament backgrounds, others are educators first, but all are trained to guide kids through calm, structured learning rather than rushed instruction.

Group coaching is ideal for children who enjoy learning with peers, playing friendly matches, and picking up skills through shared experiences. For kids who need more personal attention or want deeper preparation, we also offer private chess coaching in Singapore on request.
We’ll recommend the right fit once we understand your child’s learning style.

Our chess coach rates are kept transparent and reasonable so families can plan long-term.
Rates vary based on coaching level (Beginner, Intermediate, Tournament Prep) and whether the class is in-person, online, or private. You’ll receive a clear breakdown before you enrol, no hidden charges, no surprises.
